Position: Public Health Veterinarian

Job Summary:
The Public Health Veterinarian is responsible for ensuring the promotion, protection, and improvement of public health through the application of veterinary medical knowledge and expertise. This role involves conducting research, implementing preventive measures, and providing guidance on public health issues related to animals, zoonotic diseases, and environmental health. The Public Health Veterinarian collaborates closely with government agencies, healthcare professionals, and community stakeholders to develop and implement effective strategies for disease prevention and control.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct epidemiological investigations to identify and analyze public health risks associated with animal diseases, zoonoses, and environmental health hazards.
2. Develop, implement, and evaluate public health programs and policies to mitigate risks and promote animal and human health.
3. Assess and monitor disease outbreaks and emerging public health issues, providing expert guidance and recommendations to relevant stakeholders.
4. Collaborate with government agencies, public health organizations, and academic institutions to promote interdisciplinary approaches to public health issues.
5. Provide veterinary expertise and guidance to public health professionals, healthcare providers, and community organizations on zoonotic disease prevention, surveillance, and control.
6. Develop and deliver education and training programs to enhance the knowledge and skills of professionals and the public on public health issues related to veterinary medicine.
7. Conduct research and contribute to the scientific literature on public health topics, including zoonotic diseases, food safety, and environmental health.
8. Participate in emergency preparedness and response activities, ensuring effective coordination and communication with relevant stakeholders.
9. Stay updated on the latest advancements in public health, veterinary medicine, and related disciplines, and apply this knowledge to inform decision-making and program development.

Qualifications and Skills:
1. Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited veterinary school.
2. Current and unrestricted license to practice veterinary medicine.
3. Board certification or eligibility for board certification in Veterinary Public Health (Diplomate ACVPM) is highly preferred.
4. Proven experience in public health, epidemiology, or related field is required.
5. In-depth knowledge of zoonotic diseases, environmental health, and the principles of public health practice.
6. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct comprehensive epidemiological investigations and risk assessments.
7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders and communicate complex scientific information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
8. Proficiency in data analysis, statistical software, and epidemiological modeling.
9. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage public health programs, projects, or research initiatives.
10. Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
11. Proficiency in using relevant computer software and electronic medical record systems.
